Finding Your Ministry Sweet Spot

God has given ... pastors and teachers to prepare God's people for works of ministry, so the body of Christ may be built up."
Ephesians 4:11-12

Have you ever wondered if you are serving in God's will? God has gifted every single one of us in a unique way. However, often times we end up serving in an area of need instead of in our gifts and passions.

Exhibit A:
I serve in the church nursery one Sunday a month. In fact, my Sunday is the fourth Sunday, which is this coming Sunday. Why do I serve in the nursery? Do I just love other people's little babies so much that I long to sit on the nursery floor, hand out animal crackers, change poop diapers for an hour and a half, and hold babies the entire time? Uh, no. That is not me. I love my baby girl, but I am not a baby kind of gal. I don't get goo goo eyes at babies in the store. I don't beg my friends to let me hold their little darlings. I serve in the church nursery because there is a need - and I personally believe that if I'm going to utilize this facility for my own daughter, that I should volunteer. I get a bitter heart about this sometimes because I know that not everyone shares my convictions, but that's for another day...

As you can plainly see, this is definitely a ministry that I serve in, but not because I feel the Lord calling me to serve there. The Children's Pastor has called me to work here, and he knows that this is not my Ministry Sweet Spot. He explained to me, as only a children's pastor can, that this is a Secondary Ministry. Secondary Ministries are the ministries in the church that just need to happen. (I think he just made that up because he's in dire need of nursery workers - tee hee!)

So, what's my sweet spot? That is what I'll be covering over the next few days. We recently explored this very subject in my Sunday School class a few months ago. It was so enlightening that I thought I would share my newly gleaned wisdom with you.

Stick with me and I'll guide you along, sharing what I have learned.

Looking forward to this.

We all do so much just because there is a need...but if everybody did their gift think of the joy!

God is so Good!
