Sarah waited with her husband for 25 years.
It took 25 years from the time God first promised that Abraham and Sarah would have a son until the time Isaac was born. That's a loooooong time!
I love how every story - big or small - every person - main character or supporting - they are all part of God's story - always pointing the reader to God, not man.
God made a promise to Abraham and Sarah that made Sarah laugh because it was so outrageous! Sarah was about 65 when God first promised an heir to her 75 year old husband, which was crazy to think about, since she had prayed and prayed for a child for about 50 years. After ten years of waiting, Sarah became impatient - she stopped trusting God - and took matters into her own hands by suggesting her husband use her servant to produce a child. But, because this was not the son God had promised Sarah, she only became more bitter and angry.
Sarah's story is not unique and many can relate. Her faith was tested and her human desire won. She took control of God's story and tried, in her own power and strength, to write the ending - and made a hot mess!
By the time she finally became pregnant with her son, she would have been almost 90 years old.
God has perfect timing every time, which is so hard to remember and understand when we are in the middle of the wait. It is hard to sit still and wait patiently, not giving in to the temptation to take over and make things happen.
People were tragically hurt, and lives are still affected by the story Sarah wrote. But in the end, when she quieted her heart and her mind and waited on the Lord - she was blessed with the fulfillment of God's faithful promise.
So I sit and I wait. God has chosen to remain silent in this time, which makes waiting that much harder. But I am choosing to trust and wait and see what the Lord has planned for my family. I don't do this well everyday, but I am trying to remember that God is so faithful, and that He has plans for us that are more amazing than anything we could ever even dream of. And I remind myself that NOTHING is too hard or impossible for God!
