Patiently Waiting - Noah's Wife

Not a lot is known about Noah's wife.  Jewish tradition believes her name to be Naamah (source: Bibleinfo.com).  Her character is also left to question and speculation.

I have seen Noah's wife portrayed as supportive and patient, and I have also seen her as evil and querulous.  I tend to believe, for the most part, she must have leaned toward the former.  She is never mentioned, as Job's wife was, telling Noah to turn his back on God or that he was crazy for following God.

Noah was a godly and righteous man, which would have been in stark contrast to her current culture and the other men around her.  He had been called on by God to build an ark - 120 years before the rain actually came.  This would have given her plenty of time to pick a lot of fights.  Noah's entire family worked against the cultural norm for almost two life-times.  That had to be stressful and hard.

Rebecca Fairies, from She Reads Truth, wrote this: "Noah and his wife were in the middle of a storm they did not understand, but they waited patiently for the Lord, trusting Him to be their refuge and strength.  God invited them to simply obey and He was faithful to deliver them." (I added the patiently...)

Right now it feels like I'm in a storm.  I am asking for direction and wisdom and guidance and answers.  And the more I pray and seek God, the more I hear nothing.  I am in a season of "Wait."  Not my favorite season...

And storms are tough.  They can be loud and scary.  They are unpredictable and can knock you off your feet.  They can wear you down and wear you out physically, mentally, and emotionally.  And you can never be completely prepared or ready because you never know when the next one is coming, or what it will bring with it.

I am weary and frustrated.  But something I am slowly learning is that there is no way to rush God.  He's got it all worked out, which is easy to type up all fancy like, but much harder to believe, and even more difficult to live out.

We may not know a lot about Noah's wife, but I like to think that she took God at His Word - even in the silence - the 120 year silence - and trusted and obeyed.

Lord, help me refocus and remember that you are worth the wait.  Help me to be still and to rest in your strength.
